Let's Start Things Off With a Title Change

If you've visited my site recently, you'll have noticed one very clear change. What used to be Cardwell and the Vicar's Son is now The Viscount and the Artist. I've used the title Cardwell and the Vicar's Son since the story's inception two years ago. So why the change now? There are two reasons, really:

1. Cardwell and the Vicar's Son places most of the emphasis on the fact that Jeremy is the son of a clergyman. While that is an important part of his characterization, it isn't the most important part, nor is it the part that I wanted to highlight. So I knew the second part of the title needed to be changed to reflect the nature of Jeremy's character.

2. I wanted to show Andrew and Jeremy on equal playing field. Even though Andrew is a viscount, and is therefore of a higher status than Jeremy, in the relationship they are equal. By giving one a name and reducing the other to who his family is, I placed more emphasis on Andrew than Jeremy. To change that, I used their titles - who they are and who they see themselves as.

So that's how I came up with The Viscount and the Artist. If you saw the change, now you understand why it came about. And if you didn't see the change, then at least you have a small glimpse at my writing process.

Look for The Viscount and The Artist at ebook retailers this September!
